HP HDX "Dragon"

hp hdx dragon review

We have just got our hands on one of HP's most anticipated releases - the DRAGON! The new monster of the laptop world.
The most impressive part of the HDX is the massive 20.1inch screen. The largest we have ever scene on a laptop.

At the price (around $5500) this is definitely aimed at the luxury market. The design is very cool and works really well for screen usability. It has a full size keyboard with a number pad and even enough space to dock a remote control for the media player.

But its whats inside that inspired us to fork out for this beast - an intel core 2 extreme X9000 2.80Ghz processor, 4gb ram and an Nvidia Geforce 8800Gts graphics card. Running on a 64 bit operating system this is one of the most powerful laptops to date.

Whilst it doesn't quite compate to the desktop workstations we have at Jironomo it is certainly powerful enough to work on whilst on the road. It handles most architectural visualisation tasks with ease and has more than enough power for everything else (I wouldn't try and render any animations on it though).

We have ended up using this laptop more as a presentation and media player than as a work machine. The giant screen and really great sound make it the perfect choice for taking to meetings and presentations. A blu-ray drive and loads of inputs/outputs make it a really versatile solution.

In short, this is a fantastic laptop if you can afford it. However, due to its size and weight it is somewhat restricted in where you can take it (its not great in economy class)...but other than that it is exceptionally powerful and looks amazing. It is the rolls royce of the laptop world and demands respect when you whip it out at your next meeting!
